Great story, well written.
There's a lesson here for writers and readers. A good story is a good story, no matter the subject as long as it is written well.
Mosby and Marion had much in common,- both were honorable men, caught is a bad situation. Marion was on the right side during the revolution and Mosby was on the losing side during the Civil War.
If you are a war buff, this is very much worth your while to read.

The author obviously was a careful observer of those events where he was a participant. The narrative comes across as an honest appraisal by a first hand observer with a definite Southern view point. The things that small teams of well trained men were able to accomplish reminded me of Twentieth Century Special Forces teams.
The book is written by one of the members of the rangers. If you are a civil war historian you will enjoy the read. I plan on reading Money's memoirs to see how it correspond with this book. Both books are only 99 cents on so not an expensive read. To understand and enjoy the book you do need some background knowledge about the civil war.
How did we lose the war? Not for lack of courage or gallant acts. We fought, we died, we killed and we spared. We admired the courage of our enemy and marveled at his gallantry. Our hopes and dreams of a free country, released from the Federal's grasp died like General Stonewall Jackson and General J.E. B. Stuart. If you want to read about it from the soldier's view this is the book for you.
This book was very interesting if you have any interest in Civil War history. I have known about Mosby for many years, but did not know that he operated in such a small area of Virginia and was so successful. An excellent history lesson on military guerilla tactics.
It appears someone had an original copy of this book, which is no longer copyrighted, and retyped it into a format. Unfortunately, the manuscript wasn't proof-read, and the number of typos, spelling errors, and grammatical mistakes makes the book difficult to read. As for the story itself, it was interesting at first, but became repetitive after a while.
The content was superb, but I took off a star because of quite a few mistakes that must have been made in scanning into a file.
First hand account of the "career" of Masby. Basically a dreary series of minor military ambushes, train robberies & attempts to capture enemy assets, mainly horses. This is a story of a a Jesse James type outlaw rather than a military commander.
It's garbled. Dozens of names of soldiers on both sides, often confusing as to which side they are fighting. An abundance of place names, often repeated throughout the book. Mosby seems to have had a very small playing firld to operate in. No maps, so one has little clue where the action takes place apart from the Shenendoah Valley & around the Bull Run battlefield.
Unless I missed something (& I do admit to doing a fair amount of speed reading in order to finish the book) there is no real closure to Mosby as a person, or to his post-war careeer & ultimate demise. I found the book a complete drag.
